Russia vetoed Argentine
Foreign Minister Susana Malcorra’s candidacy to head the United Nations, The New York Times reported yesterday.
Malcorra
ran for the UN top position but Portuguese António Guterres ended up
being unanimously elected this week, after being greenlighted by the
five permament members at the Security Council (US, UK, Russia, France
and China). Sources from the
Foreign Ministry said they believe that the only vote against
Malcorra among the five permanent seats came from London due to the
Malvinas issue, but the Times wrote yesterday that Moscow opposed
Malcorra because it perceived her as “too aligned with the United States.”
Según la Agencia Reuters, Malcorra sólo tuvo UN veto (de los cinco miembros permanentes del Consejo de Seguridad).
Acá Clarín especulaba con que el veto había sido británico
